Synopsis:
Written for my Contemporary Trends in American Literature: African American Literature class, this paper explores how Christianity became the dominant social institution among African American slaves. I present several arguments that go against the popular opinion that Christianity became dominant only because it was forced upon the slaves; instead, many tribes held belief systems that closely mirrored Christianity.
